The Singh family has its roots in Suriname and visits regularly with our local partners. The demand for these products has been consistent over the years, so we have a steady offering of all of the main items: kouseband (long beans), sopropo (bitter melon), okra, bhata (eggplant), antroewa (white eggplant), Madame Jeanette (peppers), sim (green beans). When in season, the assortment also includes fruit such as mango and guinip.

Surinamese eggplant: Bhata & Antroewa
Both types of eggplant are the best sellers in our Surinamese selection. Bhata (purple eggplant) fried with garlic and then simmered with tomato and broth is a favourite dish. Antroewa (white eggplant) is slightly bitter, but also very popular in many Surinamese recipes. During the summer months, we are able to cultivate antroewa in our own greenhouse in Nootdorp.
